Engine Co. 19 is a historical, attractive landmark located on one of the main corridors serving our neighborhoods. The firehouse serves several southeast DC neighborhoods, including Hillcrest, Penn-Branch, Randle-Highlands, Fort Davis, Fairfax Village, and Naylor Gardens. Recently several area residents contacted Chief Tippet about three eyesores that detracted from the appearance of the firehouse and asked that he have them removed. The garden beautification project is a demonstration of the community's concern for the firehouse and symbolizes how important its appearance is to us.

On March 19th, 2000, neighbors dug the flower bed. Garden Resources of Washington (GROW) provided a $300 grant for the purchase of materials for this garden. Thank you, GROW! The garden was planted by about 20 neighbors on Saturday, May 13th. Several people contributed plants, dirt, and lots of sweat. Please help to maintain the garden by dropping by and watering, weeding, trimming, and replacing dead plants. We need plants with winter-time interest. Contact Kathy Chamberlain at kechamber@erols.com for more information.

THANK YOU, Garden Resources of Washington, for your support of this project.
