On Friday, May 12, Mrs. Dorothea Burton of Hillcrest (seated in center photo below) invited firehouse gardeners to dig clematis and other perennials from her garden. Ms. Burton's granddaughter, Cicilia, was on hand to help. Lillian Chatmon, Ed Wilhelm, and Kathy Chamberlain made final preparations to the flower bed.

As gardeners know, the hardest work is digging the flower bed. See photos of the digging on March 19, 2000.
