It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…,” in the singer, Andy Williams’ voice. 
 
Wait, we haven’t exhausted the turkey sandwiches, salads, soups, or pot pies. I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving! But as I think and reflect, it’s still the most wonderful time of the year. We are transitioning from gratitude and favor with friends and family, to giving and receiving from friends and family. 
 
While you are full of holiday cheer, think of the Association and its efforts to help our Ward 7 and neighborhood students with scholarship money. Think of your delivery people and sanitation workers. Give them gifts and spread holiday cheer. Think of our local community service organizations and churches…

General Membership Meetings
 

All Hillcrest residents are invited to join the association to promote the welfare of our neighborhood. Our December 3 meeting will be in person at the Hillcrest Recreation Center located at 3100 Denver Street SE.

Meetings are typically held on the first Saturday of the month from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

HCCA Elections Are This Saturday!!

Elections for the next board will be held during the HCCA monthly meeting this Saturday, December 3, at 11:00 am. 

Qualifications for board members:

Must live within the boundaries of the HCCA as defined in the HCCA by-laws. An exception may be made by the Board if the candidate is deemed to have a significant interest in the HCCA (e.g., currently own property in Hillcrest or resided in Hillcrest no more than five years before seeking election to the Board).
Pay annual membership dues for the current year. 
Be eighteen (18) years or older.
All candidates for the office of President shall have served on the Board either in the capacity of an elected officer or as the chair of an HCCA committee for a minimum of one year.

Downtown Holiday Market Open Until December 23

The 18th Annual Downtown Holiday Market, Washington D.C.’s outdoor shopping Village, kicks off the holiday season in November. The outdoor market continues to support more than 70 small businesses and entrepreneurs across the region, welcoming shoppers for a safe, secure, and enhanced shopping experience in the heart of the District this year. The market is open every day from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm until Friday, December 23 (except Monday, December 5 when it’s closed). 

Find the market at F Street NW between 7th and 9th Street NW. The entrance is outside the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum.

DPW Accepts Hazardous Waste at the Benning Road Transfer Station

If you have household hazardous waste items, the Department of Public Works (DPW)’s Benning Road Transfer Station will accept certain hazardous items. 
The transfer station is at 3200 Benning Road, NE.

DPW will accept the following: aerosol, ant poisons, antifreeze, asbestos, auto fluids (brake and transmission), bleach, compressed fluorescent lamps, cooking oil, and more. DPW will NOT accept air conditioners, ammunition, explosives, needles and sharps, medicine, and tires, among others.

Leaf Collection Dates Available

For residents who receive trash and recycling services from the city, leaf collection began on November 7 and continue through January 28, 2023. Check DC DPW for information on when Hillcrest will be serviced: https://dpw.dc.gov/service/leaf-collection.

On the second Wednesday of each month from 6:00-7:30 pm, join the Metropolitan Police Department 6th District for their Monthly Sector 3 Community Meeting for PSAs 605, 606 & 607 to discuss crime stats and community issues with the 6th District PSA Officials.
